AWOS System

This system measures all of the weather parameters at airport facilities, airfields, heliports, etc., providing the processed data to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the Weather Office.

Airport Weather Observing Systems

The Automated weather Observing System (AWOS) measures all of the weather parameters at airport facilities, airfields, heliports, etc., providing the processed data to the ATC and Meteorological Office, which distributes it in different ways to the aircraft pilots and the air traffic safety authorities.

AWOS System

Which parameters are measured will depend on the category of each airport; the following are the most important and commonly measured values:

  • Wind Speed and Direction
  • Air Temperature
  • Relative Humidity of the Air
  • Dew Point
  • Precipitation
  • Atmospheric Pressure (QFE-QNH)
  • Solar Radiation
  • Visibility (MOR- Meteorological Optical Range)
  • Present Weather (intensity and type of precipitation: rain, snow, hail, etc.)
  • Cloud Ceiling
  • Vertical visibility
  • Turbulence at Altitude

In addition to these parameters, the AWOS system can take other useful measurements to provide information on the condition of runways, as it can be the case of the presence of ice. It is also possible to measure in real time the noise level generated by aircrafts by means of our Noise Mapper System.
