WINDALERT

Lateral wind warning system for Roads

WINDALERT provides efficient, real-time protection for road traffic against the effects of strong winds by predicting the risk of accidents or rollover, calculated for several specific vehicle types, when driving on specific road sections that pass through particularly windy areas.

This is the case, for example, of long, tall bridges over steep valleys or sections of road in completely flat areas that are subjected to strong winds.

The WINDALERT system has a program module included in the general METEODATA Weather Station line that continuously analyses the wind in the area where it is installed to calculate a forecast for the very short-term (10 minutes), aimed at determining the impact of the wind on the traffic safety in that location. The METEODATA station itself predicts the risk of vehicles overturning, based on historical data, normally from 30 minutes before, and then weighted based on the pavement conditions and small changes in atmospheric pressure.

The WINDALERT system developed by GEONICA is the product of a European collaborative project called W.E.A.T.H.E.R. (Wind Early Alarm System for Terrestrial Transport Handling Evaluation of Risks), designed based on the most advanced scientific research in the fields of modelling and wind prediction, aerodynamics, and statistics.
