Gravimetry

The study of subsoil properties by measuring and analyzing the gravitational field.

Gravimetric prospecting is the study of subsoil properties by measuring and analyzing the gravitational field at the surface of the Earth's crust. This field is affected by all of the mass distributions and discontinuities in the subsoil, characterized by their density, whose contribution or effect on the Earth’s gravitational field will be determined at each measurement point, provided that the gravimeter is sensitive enough.

Main applications:

  • Location of hydrocarbons.
  • Search and location of tunnels and cavities.
  • Archaeological research.
  • Scientific and structural studies of the Earth's crust.
